It's not official but sources, who wish to remain anonymous, are saying that Butch Davis could be announced rather quickly as the new head coach at Notre Dame. This announcement, if it happens, comes out of left field after all the talk of who may be the next coach for the Irish.
"Davis has been contacted by Notre Dame and has expressed interest in becoming the new head coach." one source said, "It may be announced by the end of the week."
Another source added this, "It seems that Coach Davis' days here in Chapel Hill may be coming to an end. The vibe around here is that it is an almost done deal."
None of this information can be confirmed at this time. Both sources requested anonymity because they are not authorized to comment on the issue.
Neither Davis, North Carolina and Notre Dame are not commenting.
Davis has found success before at a high profile program when he was the head coach at Miami. Davis' name comes as a surprise after the names of Tony Dungy, Brian Kelly, Gary Patterson and Chris Peterson all came up as being on the wish list of Notre Dame officials.
