Normally on Sundays I would be on my blog ranting and raving about who won and who lost but not today. I am a college football fan and as much as I despise the Florida Gators my thoughts and prayers are with the Tim Tebow and his family.
The hit that Tebow took during the game against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday was one of the most vicious I have seen in recent memory. I know the Gator Nation is holding its breath after Tebow was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Luckily it does look like nothing more than a concussion. Not that a concussion is to be taken lightly. Coach Urban Myer has told members of the media that the ambulance trip was nothing more than a precaution because Tebow started vomiting while being carted off the field.
"Did I hold on to the ball?" That was the first question Tebow asked when Coach Meyer made it out onto the field to check on his injured quarterback. That question right there is why college football needs more Tim Tebows. The young man is a class act and more concerned about a fumble and hurting his team than being knocked into next week. He is a team player and team leader, while the Gators may be able to plug someone else in the position to play quarterback they will not be able to plug someone in to play team leader and captain of the Florida Gators. His leadership and fire from within is what the Gator Nation feeds on.
The old cliche' as a reserve player in football is, "You are only one play away." Back-up quarterback John Brantley knows that only to well now.
It's not the end of the world as Tebow will be back and taking snaps for the Gators before too long. The only question now is how long will he be out. With a bye week on slate for the Gators they have time to get things in order and look after the health of Tebow. The only thing Tebow needs to keep in mind with the concussion is to take his time coming back. Football is the not the most important thing his health is. College football needs Tim Tebow, when fully healthy, not for the Gators to win a national championship but just to see Tim Tebow on the field being the leader and role model that he is.
GET WELL TIM.

Excellent post Fred. You are exactly right about Tim and what he represents. Obviously as a Gator fan, I am very biased, but Tim is a once in a lifetime player. Florida is extremely lucky to have him as an ambassador for the university. My wife and I were watching the game last night and moments before he took the devastating blow, I was telling her that she was watching what is most likely the greatest player ever to play the game. When I saw him laying there motionless on the field after the hit, I felt nauseous. I know too well what can happen after that time of injury. I am keeping him and his family in my thoughts and prayers and look forward to his return in his final season of college football. There will most likely be very few dry eyes when he takes the field for his last home game in the Swamp in November.
