It's homecoming and the tailgaters are already setting up in the parking lot for the Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears contest later this afternoon with the Wingate Bulldogs. There is a light rain falling and thunderstorms are expected later this afternoon.
The players are now gathering for morning position meetings and going over final preparations for this afternoons contest. The Wingate Bulldogs currently sit a top the conference standings, tied with Carson-Newman, with a 4-1 record and 2-0 in conference play. The Bears are 4-2 over-all and 1-1 in conference.
Last years meeting saw the Bears stage a rally in the 4th quarter but they came up short. Bears head football coach Fred Goldsmith has urged his players to finish the job today and dominate the 4th quarter just as they did last year.
I know we normally only talk about college football on this blog but today would be a great chance to come out and watch numerous college athletics today on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne. It is homecoming weekend for the Bears and along with football, the women's volleyball team and men's and women's soccer will be in action.
